Bangor academic bags New York summer school place

Dr Chris Pallant, a part-time tutor at Bangor University's school of creative studies and media, has won a Fulbright Commission Special Award to participate in an American Studies summer institute at New York University.

The Fulbright Commission, founded in 1948, offers the only bi-national transatlantic academic awards programme between the US and the UK. Places on this unique educational exchange are highly competitive, with eight scholars having been selected through a rigorous application and interview process.

Dr Pallant said: “As an active researcher in the area of American animation and live-action filmmaking, getting the chance to experience American culture and academia firsthand, for a concentrated period of time, is extremely exciting.”

This four week programme involves studying four sub-themes: Local Autonomy and Pluralism, Individual Liberty and the American Creed, Cultural and Social Heterogeneity, and National Unity: Social and Cultural Integration.

Dr Pallant heads off or his four week study on June 27th.
