Date announced for Wrexham science festival

The Wrexham science festival - the only one of its kind in North Wales - will run from Thursday 1 July to Saturday 10 July 2010.

The hands-on science extravaganza, Scientriffic, will take place on Saturday 3 July.

This year’s Wrexham Science Festival will feature a full programme of events, designed to appeal to all ages and interests – from events suitable for children to events designed to support business.

The programme will be packed with science and technology talks and demonstrations, films and exhibitions. A science-themed competition – one of the most popular elements of the festival since its introduction in 2007 – will again be repeated for 2010.

Earth and the Universe; The Animal World; Human Mind and Body; and Bright Sparks will be the four themes of the 2010 festival.

Helen James, chair of the Wrexham science festival and an executive director at Glyndŵr University, said: “We have big plans for the Festival to be the highlight of the early summer calendar. The festival will have a fresh feel and encourage us all to investigate, enjoy, learn and re-think our ideas about science and technology.”

The 2009 festival attracted more than 8,000 visitors and participants from both the UK and abroad. It featured a series of talks on the atmosphere and the night sky in celebration of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy.
