Leeds Met scheme aims to boost graduate recruitment

Leeds Metropolitan University has launched a new initiative designed to boost graduate recruitment and the growth of local enterprises.

The Business Enhancement Scheme will provide university leavers with paid work experience for between eight weeks and two years, with the opportunity for continued employment following the completion of their assignment.

Recent graduates will work on specific projects, such as the introduction of marketing or the development of IT systems, while also receiving academic support in cases where extra resources or creative solutions are needed to deliver business growth.

For schemes lasting six months or longer, companies will pay only the direct employment-related costs, with the university funding the academic support and administration.

Simon Baldwin, senior business development manager at Leeds Met, said, "Universities have the ability to stimulate private sector growth and become a catalyst for business development. I have heard said many times, especially by small business owners, they would like to employ more staff but can't afford the time to cope with the bureaucracy or take the risk of hiring someone now that they will have to let go a few months later. The Business Enhancement Scheme minimises risk and red tape for employers, enabling them to grow their workforce and business."
