Salford students film for the BBC
A team of Salford students has been filming gigs for a BBC project which aims to break new Manchester bands.
The three students from the BSc Professional Sound and Video Technology course have been filming gigs held at the Ruby Lounge where Manchester bands play to a live audience, as part of the ‘BBC Introducing’ project.
Simon Frain, Lee Ackerley and Tom Evans have been gaining experience of filming these gigs with one static and two roving cameras to produce a three minute film for the BBC website.
Lee Ackerley said: “When my tutor got in touch, I decided I wanted to do this project to gain some experience of live filming. And having done a few gigs now I’m really loving it! This is definitely an area I’ll be investigating as a future career.
Chris Long, producer for BBC Manchester Introducing said: “I have been immensely impressed with the standard of work that has been produced by the students who have worked with us on the Introducing Live project.
“They have come with great ideas and a willingness to learn, and have been utterly professional and a pleasure to work with both on site at the venue and in pre and post production. As a result, the Introducing profiles that have been made have been excellent and so much more than I could have ever expected them to be."
Five major BBC departments are currently in the process of moving to the MediaCityUK site at Salford Quays and from September 2011, the University of Salford will open a 103,000 sq ft facility there. The move is designed to help develop more partnerships like BBC introducing which will gain work experience for students, as well as collaborations with business and research projects.
